Alreem Environmental Consultation took the initiative in 1998 to start the first ecotourism programme in Bahrain. Ecotour trips included birdwatching, nature exploration to various habitats like desert, mangroves, and plantation areas. A special trip was organized to Hawar islands to watch many breeding birds including the largest Socotra cormorant colony.
This programme has been ceased since 2015.
